Hello happy people!!

Here's my little story. On 3/14/2012 I was banded. YAY! or so I thought. I yo-yoed between 173 and 186 pounds for two years and finally plateaued. Then my energy level plummeted, my hair fell out, my nails became brittle, and I always had a headache. I had a battery of test performed by several specialist, and the I got a call from my cousin, who was banded a year before. She called me from the hospital saying she had to get a gastric bypass because her stomach was so damaged from her band. Well, she experience the same symptoms before regurgitation blood clots and being admitted for the emergency procedure. She told me to call and schedule an Endoscopy immediately. I call my original surgeon and was put off for two months, however, they could see me that day to do an adjustment. I mentioned it to my coworker who has the VSG and he called his surgeon and the got me in the next day. As soon as the doctor entered the room he rattled off all my symptoms to me, and said Endoscopy is scheduled tomorrow morning. He emptied the band, told me to go eat, and that he see me in the AM. In a few everything was turning around. My energy level came back up, hair is filling out again.....I was elated!! Then on 5/1 it started.. I puked for 45 minutes with small clots of blood coming up. I called the doctors service and he told me to get to the ER. I was already a work by then. So the next morning I went to the ER and was admitted. The doctor told me the band had corroded and was cutting into my stomach which cased the bleeding. I wasn't sure what was going to happen in surgery. He presented the option of the sleeve and bypass during m first visit with him. The day before the procedure he said he would do what was safe. Whether it was a revision or just the removal......I was devastated by that news, but I had to accept that my health was the major focus here. After the surgery I felt like I had been fit by a Mack truck. The interns told me that the band was removed and that was all. I decided that I wouldn't go back for another procedure. They wanted me to drink a lot of water to stretch my stomach out but I could only tolerate a few sips. Thursday evening when the surgeon came by to check on me I mentioned it to him, and he said I would need to increase the intake before being released, it's required after the sleeve. I said , Doc you didn't do my sleeve. He pulled the notes and showed me everything. I told him to fire his interns and start over!! I'm 4 days post op and drinking 20 ounces of fluids, but I'm hungry or it's gerd but I will address this on Monday. After surgery I started walking as soon as I was in my room. I'm so glad I did. It helped with the pain. Now I'm just wondering how soon I can get to the gym!!

Hi & Welcome to the losers bench! I see that you got your band at NYU, did you get your VSG there too? I got my surgery done there. I hope you're more successful with the sleeve than that crappy band. I'm a little more than 2 years out & its been good.

Concentrate on healing, the gym isn't going nowhere. lol Besides the sun is finally starting to make an appearance again. Walking outside & building up from there is a good start if you want to start getting into exercise again. Good luck to you!

Thank you. No, I had my revision at Brooklyn Hospital Center. I'm also concerned because I'm hungry. LOL! I want to stick to liquids or yogurt for the rest of the week, at least,  but man!

I will. I can only tolerate water when it's ice cold,  and that makes my stomach feel like it's falling out.
