Got my surgery date!!
My surgery is scheduled for August 10th. I'm a little disappointed that I had to schedule it for a month later than planned. My surgeon will be out of the office for the month of July. However, it feels good to actually have a date to count down to! I'm trying my best to stay positive and remind myself that the surgery WILL HAPPEN, just have to be patient. I really hope these next 3 months go by quick!!
Thank you! I am a self-pay patient, originally I was planning on having the surgery early July (when I will have the money to pay for everything) however, my surgeon will be out of the office for that month. I definitely wish I was able to have the surgery sooner but it is what it is and everything happens for a reason. I am just so thankful I am able to have WLS and change my life for the better!
Hi! Getting your surgery date really depends on your surgeon, the program they have set up and whether or not you are covered by insurance. I know many insurance plans have several things they want the patient to do before they will approve them for surgery.
I am a self-pay patient therefore, as soon as I complete the required steps my surgeon has put in place I can qualify for surgery. So far I have had to lose 5% of my body weight, attend a seminar, attend a support group meeting, meet with a exercise coach and dietitian, and have a psych. eval performed. For my surgeon's program I have to meet with the exercise coach and dietitian twice before surgery. So those visits are still to be completed. I also have to have some testing done including blood work and receive medical clearance from my PCP. It seems like a lot but taking one step at a time is the key! I began this process at the beginning of March and I can't believe we are about to be in May!
If you are interested in having WLS I would suggest speaking with your insurance and find out what their requirements are and what surgeons accept your insurance. Then begin the process of picking your surgeon and going through all the required steps to be approved for surgery. Good luck!
