On Pre-Op diet - worried I'm not losing enough

I'm on a 10 day pre-op diet. I've been following it to the letter and it's actually gone by pretty quickly. I lost 8.5 lbs the first 3 days on it. The last 4 days, however, I have not lost anything.

Rational me: You lost a lot of water weight in the beginning and the weight will come off if you stick with it. Have you ever lost 8.5 lbs in a week?

Irrational me: OMG- you are going to have surgery, not eat, and not lose weight.

I'm trying to stay in a rational state of mind but I'm getting more anxious now that surgery is so close (4/11/16).

Words of advice?

I think the "rational me" is right on target.

Part of obesity is that we've had so many failures trying to lose weight that we don't believe its possible.  But weight loss surgery is an effective tool to managing obesity.  It does make it possible - not easy - but possible.

8 pounds is a lot of weight.  Be happy with your success.

Sounds to me like you're doing great! For me, the pre-op diet was more about shrinking the liver to make the surgery safer rather than losing weight, and I suspect it's the same for most people.  You'll lose plenty of weight after surgery. :)

Just keep following it to letter as you're doing and you'll be fine.  If you're really worried, just call your doc's office and they can reassure you.  Good luck with your surgery!!

I bet one of these next mornings you will wake up with a big loss.  Focus on what you can control, which is following the diet as prescribed and taking care of yourself.  Your body will fall in line in time, I'm sure.

If you measure your success solely by the number on the scale, you are setting yourself up for failure. I encourage you to take baseline measurements of upper arm, neck, bust, waist, hip, thigh, calf. Then, track your progress monthly. When you follow your plan, and the scale doesn't move, your body is making magic. I've lost inches when the scale takes a rest. You have got this !

Age: 64; 5' 5"; High weight: 345; Start weight: 271 (01/05/15); Surgery weight: 218 (05/27/15); Pre-Op (-53); M 1 (-18); M 2 (-1.5); M 3 (-13.5 ); M 4 (-13); M 5 (- 8); M 6 (-12) M 7 (-5, Xmas); M 8 (- 9) Under surgeon's goal and REACHED HEALTHY BMI 12/07/15!! (Six months and one week.) AT GOAL month 8. Maintaining at goal range (139- 144) ~ four (4) years !!

Just another example of a weight loss truth, everyone loses weight differently. I only lost 5lbs on the liver shrink diet (note that name) pre -surgery and was on it for almost 3 weeks. My friend who had surgery with me lost nothing at all. The idea here is to make your liver easier for you surgeon to handle. As others have said after surgery the weight will come off. Good luck to you with your surgery.
