I survived and lots of NSV's!
I survived my Smokey Mountain hiking trip! We walked about 18 miles in the 3-ish days (two days of 10 hour travel and two days of hiking) and here's what I learned: I can do anything I set my mind on. I didn't have to sit out and wait for the others because I couldn't do it, I just did it a little slower than they did. The first trail was 1.5miles up the mountain over stones and tree roots (see the picture!!) and when I got to the top, I cried - because I did it! Then later that day we did a "little" climb called Clingman's Done. The trail to the reach the park's highest point is paved and only measures one-half mile. However, the trail can be moderate to difficult because of its steep incline. During the short hike, you will gain 332 feet, which makes the climb gradient almost 13%! I thought the climb up was bad.... until I had to come down. Oh boy.... my thighs are STILL burning from that one. Besides the climb, the other best NSV? Being able to buy a tshirt in a souvenir shop that said "Gatlinburg". I've never been able to buy a shirt on a vacation before..... and true to form, I picked up a size too big. My niece made me put it back and get the smaller one (XL) and it fit! After this weekend, my walks around my neighborhood are going to seem tame!
What a great NSV! It must be a great feeling having accomplished a hike like that! You look great, keep up the good work & hope you have many more nsv's!
