Reoccurrence of hiatal hernia after surgery?
6 months ago I had my sleeve and I am so happy! At that time I had a hiatal hernia repaired which is common. Now it has reoccurred but much worse. So much so that I will need to have surgery again to have it repaired and mesh put in to keep everything in place. My CT showed that a large portion of my sleeve is actually pushed up into my asophogus.Have any of you had this?
Yep- I just had exactly that repaired this past December. I also had my gallbladder taken out at the same time. Surgery recovery was uneventful. I did have pills/food getting a bit caught at first, but now it does not seem to be an issue. I did redo the eating phases similar to what we did vsg, but ended up having to be on liquids a bit longer at first. Doc did mention that it was much higher risk. Two days in the hospital, but that was due to having so much surgery at once.

Keep in mind that I was diagnosed with a bad gallbladder during the same period they diagnosed the hiatel hernia, so these symptoms crossover to one another.
- Acid reflux- lots of it.
- Nauseau- noticed it sporadically at first, noticed it just prior/during a BM and after eating. Mild at first. Progressively worsened to the point I couldn't keep solid food down, and put myself on a liquid diet until I was able to get into the docs. After a couple of days of a liquid diet, I could eat again. This kept cycling.
- Belching/burping frequently
- Fake hunger (from all the acid)
- Stomach pain
- Pain under the right side of the rib cage (from gallbladder probably)
- Eventually I would get sick enough that I could would throw up/get very sick for about 2 hours and then have a dull ache for a few days after- probably from the gallbladder.
- Fatty food of any type was making me sick (gallbladder likely)
- Diarrehea sporadically (normally I have issues with being a bit constipated, so this is unusual for me)
- Vomiting
- Weight loss, not from trying

My sister had a Hiatal Hernia repair, and she never had WLS. Hers also came back.... so it does happen even without WLS.

Yep. I agree. I meant to ask my doc if I may have caused it be overeating capacity... not that I am prone to doing that, but perhaps I am more at risk due to that juncture being weak or something. I would very much like to avoid this happening again!
