Goal Reached!

Woo Hoo!  I hit my goal weight of 140 yesterday and actually dropped another pound as of this morning!

While I planned and hoped to see this miraculous number on my scale, there was a small, but occasionally loud voice in my head that wondered if it was really possible. I am beyond happy and grateful that I was able to have this surgery. Daily living is so much easier without the additional 110 pounds I was carrying around.  I am taking the advice of some wise folks that have posted the recommendation to drop some extra pounds during this first year, due to the apparently normal (few) pounds of regain that can be expected after 2-3 years. I will be thrilled if I can keep the scale between 135-139.

The maintenance process still scares me, and I plan to stay connected to the many great forums here so that I can continue to learn from (and eventually contribute to) the wisdom that has helped make this all possible.

Congratulations!  Good job.  I too have recently gone into maintenance and yes, I'm a bit worried too. I don't want all my hard work to go to waste.

Thanks!  I look forward to hopefully seeing you on the maintenance boards.  It's so nice to connect with others on this forum who are experiencing the same types of anxiety.  Congratulations on your fabulous weight loss!

Wonderful news!  Congratulations!

I was also terrified of going into maintenance, and I tried a few different plans before arriving at my current plan which is working pretty well for me.

I found that if I was adding extra calories to my meals, it wasn't good.  I was already eating all the healthy food I wanted, and extra calories weren't helpful.  so I decided to go from 3 meals a day to 4 meals a day, and this worked well.  My meals are still 4 ounces of meat and all the low-carb veggies I want.

My maintenance plan is a little lower in cals than I need so I have room for little cheats.  When the scale goes up a few pounds, I shift into weight loss mode and just cut out the extra meal or substitute something low cal for the extra meal.  So far its working for me.

Good luck with maintenance.  I'm sure you'll find an approach that will work for you.

Carol

Thank you Carol!  You have been a great source of inspiration and support from the very beginning.  I like your approach and will give it a try.  I am worried about increasing the calories of my meals too.  Not sure how many calories I will need to maintain, so I guess I will need to experiment a bit.
