I am always thinking about food!

I am 3.5 years out and constantly thinking about food - whether I am hungry or not!  Does anyone else experience this?

I am always wanting to shove food in and I am scared.  I do not want to revert back to bad behavior.  Other than getting group support, any suggestions that I can do to help myself?

I have the same problem. I try to focus on things that will occupy my mind. If I start working on a project, like putting something together, then I think about food less. When that doesn't seem to work then I get moving.

I am 7.5 years out and always think about food, too. I keep myself busy doing other things and eat on a regular schedule. I do not let myself graze or I will be back over 300 pounds.

Thank you both for sharing, I guess "it is normal". I am just scared that I will behave badly. I will have to keep occupied by doing something else.

I'm about 3 years post op and I think about food a lot.  I can usually manage it except when the stress levels go thru the roof.  Then, when I gain to my upper limit (165 pounds), I get religion again and get back on plan.

I'll be interested in any suggestions on changing this, too.

best wishes,

Carol

Yup I often think about food too, but those thoughts are usually fleeting. If they seem to be taking hold, I lower my carbs for a few days and things settle down again.

For 4.5 years after surgery, I was crazy obsessed with eating until I joined OA. I abstain from all triggering foods, and plan my meals out every night for the following day and stick to it. I no longer spend much of my day thinking about food - since I know I can't eat outside my planned meal times and I don't have to make any choices about what to eat, I have a lot of peace and serenity around food. It's nothing short of miraculous considering I used to spend 60-75% of my day thinking about eating and food and my body and weight. If you're really really tired of it and want a solution, I encourage you to try what I'm doing. You don't necessarily have to go to OA but it helps a ton.

I was thinking of going to OA but don't like a in person group setting do you know of any people having success with OA online? Sounds like you got some great tips on coping, I particularly have a problem when under stress/angry.
