My doctor prescribed Alendronate 70mg (generic for Fosamax) for bone loss.   I have not called my WLS doctor to see if it would be a problem, but does anyone else take this??

I believe it is an excellent idea to take it.  Bone loss after surgery is common.  I took Fosamax for five years before surgery.  At that time the recommendation was to take it for five years.  My dexa scans show no loss after surgery.

My mother took that and it caused osteonecrosis of the jaw.  It was horrible!

My surgeon never mentioned Fosamax, but he strongly recommended weight training to offset bone loss. If done faithfully, it does a good job in building and maintaining bone mass and strength. Personally, I wouldn't touch Fosamax with a 39-and-a-half-foot pole!
