Thoughts on PPI's being linked to dementia later in life?

I have seen several reports over the last few days that PPI's are linked to a significant increase in dementia. It is not a risk for those who take it as indicated, usually 2 weeks or less. Me? Once a day for months on end, and periods of twice a day. Is anyone asking about this to their doc by chance? My gastro doc wa crystal clear when i inquired back over the summer about long term possible issues, and he said as long as I am taking my calcium supplements I am good. Not sure if the recent reports is "old news" or not though.

My doc said the same thing - take your calcium and all will be fine. So I continue to take a PPI daily and have for 4 years. I have no intention of stopping. I prefer life without reflux!

If long term use does indeed increase risk of dementia, at least I'll be demented with really good acid control. I probably won't worry about what I eat either, so I'll be able to eat all kinds of crap food in my demented senior years! See, it's a win, win!

Seriously, though, I'm not worried.

I agree that we have to somehow manage the acid issues.

I think one of the first signs of early onset PPI related dementia is a craving for custard.
