Have not read the book, but this article seems to summarize the foods to eat/avoid. Most of which is compatible to the Vsg lifestyle. Worth a read as it explains the evidence based via science research on what and how much to eat to combat disease.

Might be hard to get in the protein requirements needed post-op with this diet without going over in carbs (i.e. dried beans/lentils) but other recommendations seem to be spot on! Thanks for sharing.

Ok, I guess I'm pretty much f#*&ed. With the exception of water and nuts (once in a great while), there is not a single thing in that article that I eat. Not a single thing.

The real question is, would eating unlimited leafy greens make you live longer, or would it just SEEM longer?

Everything I eat USED to eat unlimited leafy greens. All day long. In the end, I guess you could say that grazing killed them. But I'd like to think that I ultimately reaped the health benefits of their leafy green diets.

Dang Grim,

I knew you were a meat eater and non veggie eater, but really- not 1 thing? Holy smokes! Maybe just sprinkle a little tumeric on your meat and call it a day!

Yuck. I don't do any kind of spices at all. Not even pepper. I do have several salt shakers scattered around the house. Is that on the list?

Sounds very much like Joel Fuhrman's nutritarian philosophy. He authored the books Eat to Live and The End of Dieting. Granted Fuhrman is an MD, but his dietary recommendations left me hungry all F*&cki%^g day long. Yes, I lost weight but it was completely unsustainable for me. 3 oz of animal protein per day just didn't cut if for me. Imagine post VSG and hungry ALL DAY LONG.

I do believe in lean, green and clean, but I think we all need to find a happy balance. Some do very well on vegetarian type diets, others don't. I fall in the other category!

Even for me, a person who doesn't enjoy eating meat, I wonder if I follwed this strictly what my hunger may or may not be like. I am fortunate in that I can eat beans/legume without too much fall out. Same goes with green leafy goodness and low glycemic fruit. But I do work hard at getting protein in and would guess that it is the combination of the protein and other choices that helps to keep the blood sugar balanced. I found the whole grain ratio of carbs to fiber very interesting- I checked what I currently eat and it did not meet the ratio guidelines. Time to more carefully check the labels on that, as I believe it may help even further with spiking insulin. It was the first time I saw something like that to guide the quality of the whole grain choice. Yesterday at Aldis even the healthy line (fit and active brand or something like that) didn't meet the ratio.
