OK, I have been in this game for over 10 years and had never heard the term "Bioavailability" for WLS.  I read the most recent article appearing on our Home Page and found it to be very informative and you are never to old to learn.

Check it out!

I never heard that term before, but it sounds more or less like another word for the more usual "malabsorption" that RNY patients have.

Exactly - it's just a fancy term to say "how well your body absorb and utilize his product".

Bioavailability is the percentage of a substance that is able to reach the body's system; basically it's an absorption percentage.  Intravenously administered stuff is typically always 100% bioavailable, for example.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

My surgeon might have written this.  All this info was given to me prior to surgery and decision between RNY and VSG. The info I received from my program really helped me make an informed decision.

Bioavailability is a hot topic in dog nutrition, too!

I agree with Meep's explanation.  It's a pharmaceutical term generally used to described medications.  I am a pharmacist, and as I think about it, the term does apply to food in the WLS world.
