How long does the hair loss last? and how severe is it? Not to sound vain, but I love my hair, I need it. The thought of losing it terrifies me. I understand that I will be losing weight and that is great, but it wont fall off right away, and I am afraid of being fat and bald. Not a great look for a 33 year old woman :(

Are there any special vitamins, shampoos and conditioners, etc.? Should I just eat a lot of protein after surgery?

everyone is different, but hair loss was the lowest concern on my list. Higher on my list was losing my legs and my eyesight to the diabetes that had  already started. Many talk about losing hair by the "handfuls" but that is really attention ***** talk.

Hair loss is a side affect of anesthesia, not surgery and can happen after any surgery. I have never seen a pic of anyone who has gone bald from wls.

My hair got quite thin. It started around 3 months post op and continued to thin thru the 7th month.  I would have purchased a wig if necessary, but I found I could use a mousse on my hair to give it a little body, and it was ok.  By month 9, I had a crop of short hairs sticking straight up on my head!  I was so happy to see them, that I didn't mind that they made me look scruffy   By one year post op, I was pretty much back to normal.

The hair loss was not fun, but it was short-lived, and well worth the results.  I lost 225 pounds, and I'm now a normal weight.  It is sooo worth it!

best of luck,

Carol

Mine started around month 4 and seems to be getting better as i approach month 6 (I can see new growth!).  I would say i was losing more than double what I normally lost.  Especially around my temples.  I did end up getting some biotein chews.  Can't promise they are working, but hey - it was worth a shot.

I also noticed that I am growing more hair on my body.. this started before biotein, but its weird, like all around my core.  I think it's trying to keep me warm haha
