2015 Goal Wrap Up and 2016 Goals

Well.. it's been a pretty ****ty year, but I made goals for myself and I kept them in sight even though it was a **** year.  I thought it was ending on a high note - I ended my first term as a college student with a 4.0.  Then I took my dad for his bimonthly brain scan yesterday and we learned that he's got 12 tumors throughout his brain that weren't there two months ago.  The smallest are 3-4mm, the largest is 12x10x8mm.  ****

Anyway, here are my goals and how I managed.

1. Read at least 52 books - I just finished my 54th book! Not too bad considering I read 2 books for pleasure between September and the end of the term mid-December! Goal complete.
2. Watch at least 52 movies in the theater - 59 movies! Woo. Again, not bad considering how few movies we were able to see after school started. I think I only missed seeing 1 or 2 that I really wanted to see. Goal complete.
3. Run at least 520 miles - 250 miles. Not too shabby considering I was laid up with an injury for 4-5 months. It's pretty amazing to me that I ran 250 miles, even if I didn't reach my goal. 250 miles! 48% complete.
4. Log at least 15 minutes of exercise EVERY SINGLE DAY - 363 of 365. I missed two days out of the year. I can't see this as anything other than amazingly successful. 99%
5. Start studying Aikido in May - Done! But then I stopped due to my hip injury. Maybe next summer after choir ends for the year. We'll see.
6. Start working with a personal trainer in September - Started in April. Fired him in October. Started lifting on my own in November which is much better.
7. Lose at least 26 pounds - 15 pounds lost. It is what it is. I can't say that I did my best, since I know I didn't. 2016 will be better. 58%
8. Complete at least 5 races - I did 7! Goal complete!
9. Achieve half shoulder stand in yoga practice - OMG I DID IT!
10. Continue monthly massages - 13 of 12 done. I love massages. Goal complete.
11. Continue mental therapy - Yup! And I made the transition to every other week appointments from weekly.

And here are my goals for 2016:
1. Reach plastics goal - 150 lbs.  Not that I'll be able to afford plastics until I'm graduated and working, but I want to reach this goal.
2. Run at least 520 miles - 10 miles a week.  Should be do-able sans injury.
3. Complete a half marathon - Yikes!  My options are the Navy Air Force Half in September or the Baltimore Half in October. I'll sign up for both and, hopefully, be ready in time for Navy Air Force since it's flatter.
4. Reach 5000 steps each day - So I know that rule of thumb is 10000 steps a day, but I feel like I do a lot of other exercise that doesn't count as steps and I don't want to ignore that with a step goal.  So I'm aiming for 5000 a day.  I certainly don't reach this now, so it will take some extra effort to achieve.
5. Achieve crow pose in yoga practice - S (my bff) has been inspirational for this one.  I'll need to do some research in what sorts of things I need to work on to get there.
6. Meditate (on my own) three days a week - I want to work on making meditation a daily habit, but a goal of doing it every day seems intimidating.  Three days a week doesn't.  So I'll start there.  The "on my own" is because I do take a relaxation class most weeks and I don't want to count that.
7. Work on balance at least ten minutes a day - I have enough balance tools (YAY BOSU FOR CHRISTMAS!!) that this should be easy and fun.
8. Pass all classes with minimum grade of B - Because I feel like I should be able to do this.  I don't want to hold myself to As, but Bs should be within my reach.
9. Finish AA degree - I'm pretty sure I'm on track to finish by the end of the year thanks to winter and summer term classes.
10. Try not to be so judgmental of my feelings
11. Survive whatever happens with my dad

Holy crap!  You and what army are going to complete that laundry list????

Based on this past years record I'd say you are well on your way.  Your dad must be so very proud of his daughter and please enjoy every minute with him - no matter how difficult it may become, you obviously have the strength of an army.

I think the main part is just keeping things in mind and remembering to check in every month.  Otherwise, it's too easy to forget about goals.

I am so sorry to hear about your father.  I will keep you and your family in my thoughts.

You are one amazing lady, though! You are definitely an inspiration to me, Gwen. :)

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

Gwen--What a year you had! Re # 11 you will survive, it will just be different.  MY heart skipped a beat when I read that. I lost my dad when I was 34 and my mom when I was 45 that was 5 years ago.  Life just takes a different turn.  Just keep your chin up and take one day and one test at a time.  Big HUGS to you.

Karen
