Holiday Luncheon - the good, the bad and the ugly

Today was my work team's annual holiday luncheon, which is a three-hour, sit-down dinner with many courses at a fancy Italian restaurant.

I made a deal with myself that since my favorite thing at this luncheon is the homemade crème brulee, I would stay on-plan and allow myself that.  I had a few of the passed family-style appetizers, only the ones I love, stayed on-plan and did not overindulge.

I ordered the soup, had a few spoonfuls and had it packed to go, saying it is very good, but I thought it would be a small cup, but it was a big bowl and so rich...  (It was my plan all along, but nobody notices or cares.)

For my entrée, I ordered warm lobster in a champagne vinaigrette on top of baby greens.  It had so many huge chunks of lobster on it!  I ate the lobster and a few greens, acted like I was still picking while everyone else was eating, then had my leftovers packed to go.

Then came the dessert tray, no crème brulee on it.  Uh oh!  Holding my breath while he goes through the list and the last thing he said was ... homemade crème brulee!  I would like to say that I only ate half (like last year) but this year I ate the whole thing!  But I don't feel bad about it, I enjoyed every stinking bite and am good to wait till next year to have it again.

That's life!

Pre-planning is key! You just proved it! It's the unthinking giving in to cravings that are "da debbil." I'm glad you enjoyed your well-planned goodies.
