Since I've been on this pre-op liquid diet I've been so constipated! Did anyone else experience this? What did you do to combat it? I know this is a little TMI and I apologize. But I've not had a BM since X-mas. I've tried several stool softeners but to no prevail.

what stool softeners have you tried? if you're to the point of impaction where you can feel it down there but can't get it out, you can use magnesium citrate as a last resort and it will clean you out! to prevent it in the future....miralax!

I'll get some magnesium citrate.  Dulcolax, ex-lax, milk of mag, and fiber is what I've tried so far.

i had a serious episode of constipation/impaction back in september, i spent like $40 on bowel meds (including milk of mag that didn't work for me)...and it was the 97 cent bottle of mag citrate that finally worked, and gave me diarrhea for a few days. I took it again on another occasion 2 months later (only about 1/3 the bottle though) and it didn't work the same day, but I had a big soft BM the next morning. are you pre or post op? as always, lots of fluids will help too. i also bought a 3 pack of big miralax bottles at costco for $20, and take it once every 3 days or so to help keep it coming. best wishes for moving it out soon!!

As long as I was doing protein shakes I was constipated. Once I realized that I started adding fiber to each and every shake and it solved the problem for me. Good luck.

It's extremely common. Some remedies work for some people, but not others. Try a bunch of things, and see what works for you. I ended up with a flashlight and mirror, giving myself an episiotomy to help clear things.

It was better than the forceps. Those are really hard to get in there by yourself. And believe it or not, it's not something your friends are willing to do.

Hi Mamba,

I am not on a diet but I still experienced this constipation a few weeks ago. It really hurt on my stomach and the pain is dumb hell. When I consult my doctor, he prescribed me this Digestic from Mimonis. It is very amazing to find out that it is very effective for me as I can regularly poop at least once daily now.
