3 Month post-op and feeling good, but...

I'm down 51lbs since surgery and 3 weeks ago started working out. Boy my body hurts and is sore.

I have only went down 2 sizes (thought it would be more) and now I'm not losing much. I started

writing down what I eat and counting the Cals & Protein amounts. I'm approx. around  1000-1200 cals

per day and 120g in protein, not sure if that's to high. I feel like I'm eating a lot but I'm hungry.

I'm at 3-4oz of protein per meal, I get my veggies in & fruit. I haven't had ANY sugar at all, so I feel like

I'm eating pretty good. Is the weight just slower coming off with the sleeve?

Your calorie level is higher than what most people are eating at 3 months out. At 3 months out I was averaging 600-650 calories per day. I stayed at 700-800 until goal.

I'm not saying that the lower calorie level is a better way, but it's what worked for me. Your calorie level could be the reason for the slow down in your weight loss.

Also, if you are feeling hungry shortly after eating, say between 30 to 60 minutes after eating, it is most likely over production of acid. A PPI can manage that issue and stop the feelings of hunger. I had the same symptoms and 2 days on a PPI cleared up the hunger issue.

Like Kairk has mentioned..... your cals are high and probably the reason for slowed WL.

1000-1200 cal programs "tend" to be low percentage efforts to goal weight, most never make it close to 100% EWL

I lost 190lbs. in 13 months (338---->148) with the sleeve which was pretty typical for my surgeons program.

1200cals is normally a baseline start point for maintenance.

You will know soon enough as the equation is very simple..... if your WL slows or stops..... you have to eat less to resume WL.....

Hope this helps....

Once again thank you for this post.  It makes it easier to understand.  I get so caught up in why I am not losing weight when the solution is so simple.

My husband and I were instructed to eat 600-800 cals per day (at least 60 grams protein) during weight loss and between 1200-1500 calories a day for maintenance.  Your calories might be a little too high right now.

I'll echo the other replies and say my nutritionist also recommended a max calorie intake of 800 calories during the weight loss phase, with 3 meals and 1 snack per day spaced out 3 to 4 hours. At each meal, I was instructed to eat no more than 4oz total of food. That includes protein and other items like veggies.

1000-1200 calories is what I'm supposed to stay around during the weight maintainence phase.

Seriously - when was the last time you heard of anyone losing over 50 lbs in 3 weeks?  Open your eyes to some reality.  You ARE living that dream, but your expectations aren't grounded.

Truth is, plus sizes have much more 'wiggle room' than Misses sizes.  Once you cross over size 16, you'll need a new wardrobe every six weeks.

My surgeon told me at my 2-week post-op visit that I should eat 1000 calories/day. It's the only time I didn't put my faith in him regarding my WL and health. At 1000 calories/day I gain weight. I do best when I keep my intake between 600-650. My fat is providing the rest of my energy needs, which is what's supposed to happen.

I'm almost 11 months post-op, have lost 105 pounds, yet my clothing size has gone from 4X to 1X (although a few Larges fit now). Still in plus sizes! I figured out that, although I've lost a lot of fat from my backside, hips and thighs, my extremely stubborn abdominal fat is keeping my clothes on the larger side. The vets here say the abdominal fat is the last thing to go, so I'm being patient and sticking with my plan. I know I'll be in regular sizes by next spring.

BTW, 51 pounds is nothing to sneeze at. Congrats!

I am 9 months out and slowly transitioning into maintenance by adding calories a bit at a time to find my body's stopping point, and I rarely hit 1100 cals/day and that's with my making an active effort to ADD more food. I lost best when I kept my calories under 900/day along with regular physical activity, and as I creep towards maintenance I am still losing just about a pound a week at 1000-1100 cals/day.
