Lots of things are habits (like our old ways of eating!) and are still worth breaking.  I believe in you - just reach over with your pinky, hit the caps lock button, and then tap it again after you post.  Simple internet etiquette.

Don't stop posting and don't worry about the caps. The world didn't crumble because of them and it won't in the future.

I thought the same thing when I was told no advil.  They were the only thing that would keep me from taking a pair of pliers and pulling out my teeth because the pain form a sinus infection was horrid!  They were also the only thing that would touch the pain from cramps.  Then I thought about it.... I didn't get sinus infections every month, just a few times a year.  But I was fat everyday.  For me it was a no brainer: I was tired of being fat and that out weighed the pain advil  relieved.

The Ibuprofen/NSAID issue is quite specifically an RNY one. While with our smaller stomachs with the sleeve we may be somewhat more sensitive to their use than the general population, it is no where near the problem that it is with the bypass, which has specific structural problems that preclude their use. As most bariatric surgeons come to the sleeve from the RNY world, they carry that protocol with them (and that does bleed into some of the ASMBS statements, as ASMBS is a bypass-centric organization by virtue of their membership numbers.) If you look into the practices of the DS surgeons, who have been working with the sleeved stomach for 20-30 years, they have little objection to NSAID use, and often recommend them.

This is not given as medical advice, but as information as to the controversy within the bariatric community involving that class of medication. NSAIDs are serious meds, and even "normal" people should not take them consistently without physician supervision. This is another "shades of grey" thing where tolerances can vary widely depending upon our individual makeup as well as what procedure we had, but overall, the VSG is much friendlier to a wider range of medications than the bypass.

As to food tolerances, that can vary widely between patients irrespective the procedure they have had, but what your class presented or implied would be an extremely worse case situation. Many patients may find taste or tolerance changes post op that affect some food item or another, but such a wide range would be extremely rare. I have a dinner support group with a dozen or two long term post ops every month and see no such pattern (just had a chicken Caesar salad last night at the meeting); indeed you would probably have a difficult time telling that group apart from any other group of people (other than they may be somewhat skinnier than average overall!)

The ASMBS changed its recommendation, and now say no NSAID use for VSG as well. An ulcer will do horrendous things to that long staple line.

Calm down!

The NSAID issue is a big question mark.  I was never told I couldn't take an NSAID.  In fact, one of the advantages of the sleeve over RNY is that you CAN take NSAIDs.  That said, they are not good for your stomach and can lead to ulcers and liver damage, even in non-WLS folks, so they should be used sparingly.  And yes, you can get your steroid shot.

Food intolerances - you may have some, but don't let the possibility of it stop you.  I haven't found a food I can't eat.  For most people, the intolerance is a short-term issue right after surgery, just like some people suffer from lactose intolerance right after surgery, but it eases up over time.  So, are intolerances possible - yes, they are.  But they're not likely.

You can't take NSAIDs, so you'll need to find other pain relief.  I take Tylenol and Tramadol when necessary. Prednisone isn't an NSAID, so it's fine.

I suggest you see an ENT if you haven't and work on getting the sinus infection issue diagnosed.  I used to get them regularly as well and, for me, getting on allergy shots pretty much fixed the issue.  Now I get once a year, maybe, and before I was getting them 10+ times a year.

I have no problem eating eggs, chicken, and beef.  I do avoid whole chicken breasts since they tend to be too dense for me, but I love chicken thighs and chicken breasts that are cut up in things like curry.  No problem with eggs or cow.
