Anyone have gallbladder surgery after gs?
Has anyone gotten their gallbladder removed after they had their gastric sleeve? I am 11 months post-op & having horrendous gallbladder pains. I am terrified of having this removed. One surgeon told me he would have to open me up, and another said he could do it perfectly fine laprascopically. Anyone have to have an open surgery? or did it go smoothly lapra? I do not know what to think of this, I am having another surgeon perform my surgery, as I am too far now from my gastric sugeron. Plus I'm pregnant, so that makes things even more fun! Right. Please let me know if you have had it, how your recovery was, ect? Anything to ease my mind! Thanks.
lots and lots of people losing the GB after WLS..
I had RNY - so even more things different there inside, but I had no problem having GB surgery laparoscopically.
I had surgery on Thursday and I was back to work on Monday next week.. I needed to take it easy..and I was tired first few weeks...
Baby may complicate things..but if you have a skilled surgeon, that had done that many time -you should be fine... unless they see complications when they go inside (i.e. a lot of scar tissue, adhesions) a good surgeon should be able to do it lap.

Yup. Lots and lots. It's very common after large and rapid weight loss, weight loss surgery or no.

I had mine taken almost exactly one year after my vsg. It was done laparoscopically and the recovery was easier than the vsg. Same surgeon did both the vsg and gb, and he's a gastro specialist. Recovery was easy and it was a relief to not have those crippling pain atracks anymore.

I just logged in to ask the same question. Gallbladder issues were never on my radar. This past weekend, I had MAJOR pain right at the bottom of my sternum that radiated to the right side and also caused sweating and vomiting. I became short of breath too. I thought I was having a heart attack. My primary, when I saw him last night, said that it is likely gallbladder issues. I called my surgeon today and am having an ultrasound tonight. Since my "attack" on Friday, I've had 3 more much less severe attacks. I'm hoping if it is the gallbladder, they can take it out soon. If not, I don't know what is going on. I'm 3.5 months post VSG.
Hello,
I had mines removed this last Friday, by the surgeon who did my sleeve. I like his professionalism and trust him 100%. I had asked for him to remove the gallbladder when he originally did the sleeve, but that wasn't something he did in his practice.
I had been expecting the stones but it couldn't have happened at a worst time. I have been very busy with school and work so the gallbladder was left on the back burner.
Hope you feel better
