How did you get through the 2 week pre-op diet?
Okay everyone, I start my pre-op diet Monday. Our surgeon's diet is 2 shakes a day and one meal of lean meat and green veggies. Unlimited veggies, broth, SF jello and SF pudding in between.
Obviously none of us got to this weight by being disciplined, so how did you get through the 2 weeks without cheating?
I will say I'm excited about the surgery, I think most of my nervousness is gone now that its so close. My husband had the surgery November 2nd and is down almost 40 pounds since the beginning of his pre-op diet. I have seen his success and his good recovery so I'm trying to let that inspire me too.
Thanks,
Becky
If you can cut out carbs before the liquid diet starts, it'll make it easier to do. Its the carb monster that makes it hardest.
Other than that, its just determination. The more weight you lose pre-op, the safer the surgery, and the easier it will be to get to goal at the end, when weight loss slows. Its a big win.
Best of luck with your surgery and weight loss journey. It is so worth the effort.

I kept my eye on the surgery. I knew that it might be cancelled if I strayed, or that there might be complications. And I really, really wanted to have surgery. There was nothing I was going to do to jeopardize that.

For the pre-op diet, you must change your name from "yesican" to "yesimust." The purpose of this diet is not to lose weight, although you will lose some weight. The diet is designed to shrink your liver. Livers in obese people are usually very fatty and enlarged. The liver lies directly over the stomach, and to get at your stomach, the surgeon must lift the liver out of the way. The smaller the liver, the easier it is to lift out of the way, the quicker and more safely your surgeon can do your surgery. All good reasons not to deviate from the prescribed diet.
How to get through it? Tough it out. It's difficult but doable. Good luck with your surgery.

I started mine on Monday too! My surgeon's 2 weeks is nothing but the protein shakes and lots of water. So count yourself lucky that you get the other items too! The purpose of this in addition to shrinking your liver is to get you in the mindset for the surgery and post op diet. You can do this! Be tough! Just keep thinking of the reason you are doing this...you have decided to take the step to get healthy...stick with it!
My surgery is Nov 30! We got this!

I just started my pre-op diet yesterday and my surgeon is much stricter than what some of you mention . . . bascially 3-5 protien shakes a day plus water. So today is day two and I have a raging headache but I'm getting my water in and i'm guzzling those shakes. Just gotta do it!
