Hello everyone

My name is Jon Deery I have my date set on November 19th for my VSG am already on a liquid diet and this is to help shrink my liver and to get my weight down even more. I am at 480 and I need to down min 460 but 450 would be best. I have severe arthritis in both knees and walking is very difficult. Needless to say I am very concerned about the surgery and I am stressed out about the whole thing. I would appreciate it anyone had any advice or help.

Thank you all so much

Jon

Welcome, Jon!

I think being stressed out put you right on track! Hopefully it helps just to know that you are not alone in that.

Keep working that pre-op plan even tho it can be pretty tough,

In my harder moments, I find it helpful to imagine how much better I will feel and function 4-6 weeks if I stick with my plan. But, my results have consistently out performed my imagination! I bet yours will, too.

Best wishes!

Jon - don't worry about doing any exercise/walking right now. Just focus on sticking to the liquid diet 100% so you can hit your doctor's weight goal.

Good luck!

For many of us, the pre op diet was the hardest part of the journey. It certainly was for me. Keep telling yourself and anyone else who will listen why you are having this surgery and what you're hoping for. Repeat. And repeat.

It is very normal to be worried. If you weren't worried at all, then I'd be concerned for you! Don't worry about walking or exercise at this point. Concentrate on following your liquid diet 100% of the time - that will be monumental in itself. The pre op liquid diet is the hardest part of this journey for many people.

When I was having worries my surgeon suggested I write a list out of the pros and cons of having WLS surgery. When he told me that I could not put down possible complications from the surgery on the con list - the con list remained empty. The pro list was LOOOOOOOOONG. Just the other day I was remembering how difficult it used to be to tie my shoes. I couldn't do it without losing my breath. Now tying my shoes is something I do without thought and with physical ease. I couldn't walk more than a few minutes without pain in my shins. Now I can go for hours pain free. I can even jog should I chose, but I stay away from most high impact exercise.

Check out JimboVSG's profile. He was a big, big guy, too. He was over 500 pounds. His life has completely changed for the better. His journey is inspiring.

Best of luck and glad you're here on the VSG board!
