My sugar is dropping very low and I am not diabetic. I've almost passed out from no carbs, no sugar, and no caffeine.

advice please? Doctors office is closed.

How low is it dropping? Have you checked it? Or are you just going on how you feel?

The registered nurse told me to take a glucose tablet to help with that while on optifast.

Thanks, Buffy. I think I'm going to have to try that.

If it were really low blood sugar, it would be rare. And you are just guessing, since you haven't actually checked.

More common is very low blood pressure, which would make you feel exactly as you describe. It's a side effect of the surgery, and has nothing to do with what you are or are not eating.

Blood sugar and blood pressure are really easy to check. Find out what it is, for certain, before you jump to conclusions and take the wrong remedy.

Hi!

Sorry to hear you are having a hard time.

I had surgery the 14th & felt weak and shaky until I got on full fluids this week. I am actually amazed at how much better I feel.

I had checked my blood pressure and pulse to see if they were low, but we're normal. I would have been afraid to randomly medicate myself with a glucose pill in case that wasn't the problem and I screwed something up.

If you feel worse call your doc..but it may pass as you recover from the trauma of the surgery...

Good luck!

Kathy

You might also be feeling crappy just from the carb withdrawals. Those symptoms are nothing to sneeze at....I went through them during my pre-op diet too.

Definitely actually check your sugar levels and blood pressure to rule those out (or in) before taking something. Also ensure you are fully hydrated and not suffering from dehydration.

You can pick up something to check your blood sugar at Walmart for under $20. It is useful to have for exactly this purpose. Since you mention you are not diabetic, you would likely not feel the need to use if very often, but when you are feeling as described it could be exceedingly helpful in determining the cause and potentially preenting you from eating carbs unneccesarily. Directions come in the box on how to use it. While there, you can check your blood pressure also. Since your post indicates you are preop, I am not so sure the blood pressure thing would be it. Post op, yes :) Just check and I hope you feel better.
