Hi All:

I finally got my surgery date (11/10), I am totally stoked. If you could offer me one piece of advice, what would it be? Or, what's your biggest, "I wish I would have known?"

Thanks for your help.

I'm a male, 50 years old, 280 lbs., and 5' 6".

Blessings.

Take advantage of your first year..also known as the honeymoon stage..after that it's a little harder to lose!

Thank you. Any way to make the honeymoon last longer?

Sip, sip, sip and sip some more in the first month after surgery. Dehydration can cause nausea and a host of other issues and it is hard to get your liquids in at first. I learned the hard way.

I appreciate the advice. I've heard some warnings about drinking with a straw; is this a real concern?

Stalls happen. Don't let the weight on the scale discourage you. Weight is affected by many other factors - not just the fat burned. If you are sticking to your plan, and eating less calories than your body needs, you will be burning fat - even when the scale doesn't show it.

Also don't set unreasonable expectations for yourself. Its all about the long run - not how much you lose this day or this week. If you are headed in the right direction, does it really matter if you get to goal in 6 months? or 1 year? or 18 months? Relax and enjoy the process. If every day you are healthier and have better energy isn't that what's important?

(Sorry I couldn't give you just one!

best of luck on your weight loss journey.

I have to 2nd oceans advice...especially if 50 or over.

This isn't so much about losing the weight to look good, but to regain maintain your health & head off future medical problems.

Follow your plan like your life depends on it. Because your life...or quality of life DOES depend on it...
