Liquid diet 2 weeks pre-op?

My surgeon didn't require any liquid diet prior to surgery, but did require a strict, low-carb, low-calorie, high protein diet. The options were one protein shake with more than 25grams of protein and fewer than 200 calories, plus two low sugar, low carb, low calorie Lean Cuisine meals per day, or (what I had) which was one protein shake (same rules) and two meals of consisting of three ounces of lean protein and steamed/blanched veggies.
Post surgery, it was full liquids (60-80g of protein) after I could easily meet my fluid goals, and then progression to soft foods, to a slow transition to a fuller but still low-fat, low-carb, and high-protein diet.
It's my understanding that my surgeon and nutritionist's diet plan is not typical of many others I've seen. It has worked just fine for me, but I am also a firm believer in doing whatever YOUR surgeon and nutritionist require. They know you best.
My doctor has ordered the two week liquid diet as well, I start mine on Tuesday. I am not looking forward to it but I am keeping my eye on the prize. I jokingly told him, liquid diet, no problem, rum and tequila, should be easy. He was not amused until he remembered I don't drink alcohol, lol. At any rate, yes, mine put me on the same two weeks, it's a way to lose some more weight prior to surgery, so not only do you lose some pre-surgical weight, but also so you lose some fat off your liver.
