What is your go to crunchy food?

Okay so at only 3 1/2 weeks post op I know I have a good ways to go for this but thought I would ask anyway. Just curious what your favorite go to crunchy snack is. I am still trying to figure out all the differences between simple and complex carbs. After reading posts on here I clearly don't know as much as I thought I did ?. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Not big on crunchies myself, but a few nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans, pistachios, etc.) now and then scratch the itch.

Simple carbs are sugars. Honey, molasses, white/brown sugar, maple syrup, and things containing them (candy, soda, etc.).

Complex carbs are starches. Think whole grains (wheat, rice, oatmeal) and starchy veggies like potatoes and corn.

We should generally stay away from both in favor of pushing protein.

Crunchy snacks I like:

  • Cheese crisps
  • Edamame
  • Bacon
  • Roasted chickpeas
  • Toasted salami
  • Very dry beef jerky (I make my own!)
  • Shrimp with a little panko on the outside

Thanks for the info. So sorry if I sound completely not with it but what are the carbs from milk and non starchy veggies like carrots and green beans considered? I feel so lost when I thought I knew something about nutrition.

carbs in milk are simple sugars inthe form of lactose, milk sugar. Carbs in green beans are mostly fiber.

To find out what is what you have to look at the carbs and then how much of the carbs are fiber,or non digestible carb.

white flour products such as cookies, cakes donuts and white flour pasta white rice etc. are also simple sugars in that the body starts breaking the sugar from then down as soon as they hit your mouth, where digestion starts.

These days my go to is fried cheese. I take a small non-stick skillet and heat it over medium. I sprinkle a thin layer of shredded cheese in it and let it get all bubbly and a bit crispy on the bottom. Then I flip it to firm up the top. Delicious and super easy cheese crisp. Depending on how long you cook it/how hard it gets, you can use it as a wrap for a scrambled egg or lunch meat or whatever. Yum.

That sounds delicious! I'm so glad that cheese is a good thing for us sleevers. I don't think I could manage to give it up. It was the only thing I craved while on my liquid diet!

My dietician said to eat low fat Wheat thins or Triscuits. Triscuits are good with cheese or put them in the microwave and have nacho crackers. Good luck on the voyage! I'm 10 weeks out and have lost about 42 pounds, so I guess that works! I've found that cheese and milk are the best for my stomach, but others have different needs.

Crackers can be entirely too addicting. So be careful with them!
