Binders
I got mine from the hospital, as well. It actually helped me sleep quite a bit.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much...the life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully. -- Seneca, On the Shortness of Life
I got mine from the hospital also, and used it every day for two weeks. It helped a lot with the one incision that caused some pain. The pressure of the binder helped me to walk more.

Binders used to be put on at the hospital after any abdominal surgery. About ten years ago it was decided to stop that practice because it was a way to cut costs.
I got my binder from a medical supply store because my hospital did not have one available to fit me.
I had had surgery before and know how uncomfortable it would be to go without the binder. It supports the back and incisions during healing.

I never used one after my vsg. I don't think it would've made any impact on my recovery. Prior to your post, I'd not heard of getting one after this surgery. I did use one after my tummy tuck and it helped immensely. One piece of advice - if you do go with a binder be sure to wear a men's tank top under the binder to prevent chafing and rubbing on incisions. it can be brutal.
