How often do you measure?
I am just curious how frequently everybody takes their measurements? I am just about 2 weeks post op and haven't measured yet. I did my first measurements before starting my pre-op diet which is now just shy of a month ago. I just thought I would see how often you all did yours after surgery.
Plus I am a side sleeper and desperately missing sleeping on my side, practically more than food! Wow, those are words I never thought I would say! Do any of you have an approximate time frame when I might me able to sleep the way I want to again?

I was able to sleep pretty much any way I wanted within days of the surgery. I don't remember my program mentioning any restriction on how I slept, and I was comfortable sleeping on my side pretty quickly.
Are you having pain when you sleep on your side? or did your surgeon recommend against it?
best wishes,
Carol

It's just not comfortable. I have tried both sides but it tends to pull on my larger incision that's right in the middle and hurt/ache. So I have been sleeping on my back which then hurts my lower back. Kind of darned if I do and darned if I don't.

Have you tried sleeping with a pillow under your knees? This helps straighten the back so the lower back rests on the bed and is supported. It helps me. Also some people mentioned that they slept in a recliner for the first few nights and that worked better for them.
I hope this resolves for you soon.

Carol

Thanks so much for your responses. So last night I was able to sleep on my side and it was the best thing ever!! Yeah! I guess I should have waited one more day to post that question :) So happy to not have to be sleeping on my back anymore because even with a pillow under my knees it was horrible!
Thanks again,
Aleyna

I did not do this but my friend made a scrapbook and put her measurements and a picture in every month on the same day as surgery. She is a very creative person and her scrapbook is a great place for her to look back and compare.
I slept in a recliner for a few days and then was able to sleep in bed on my side, but I wore a binder after surgery. They no longer give abdominal binders mostly to save money. I got my binder from a medical pharmacy and my insurance paid for it. Having everything tightly held in was more comfortable both during the day and while sleeping.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
I didn't measure at all - not pre-op nor post-op. It was always strange to me as I never knew if I was getting the tape measure in the right spot and if I did, then could I do that for each and every time I measured. I think I let it intimidate me a bit. In 2 weeks I have my 6 month post-op appointment and I've been told they do measurements at that point (and they did pre-op measurements too) so I'm glad to have it tracked by someone!
I was able to sleep back on my side after about 10 days. It was wonderful to return to my normal positioning.

I haven't ever taken measurements, I went off how clothes fit.
I couldn't comfortably sleep on my side for about two and a half weeks, then one morning I woke up and was sleeping on my side with no discomfort, there was no gradual lessening of pain.
