sleeve vs gastric bypass

Can anyone tell me why you'd choose one over the other? How do you know what one is best for you or will your surgeon decide?

I chose RNY because I felt I needed the addition of malabsorption as well as restriction. At this point in my life I had gone on restrictive diets and not lost any significant weight. So I felt restriction alone wouldn't be enough. I also had a lot to lose, and wanted the procedure that had more of a history of success.

Thankyou

I've never considered the sleeve only gastric. I'm 5'3 263lb female, do you think this is a better option? Will my Dr recommend one or do I have to chose?

Your Doc may recommend one over the other if you ask, but unless there are some strong reasons to have one over the other it is probably up to you to decide. Do you have GERD or diabetes? The sleeve can make GERD worse. While both can help diabetes, I know with RNY many people in the support group walked out of surgery off their insulin and other meds.

No GERD or diabetes.

No diabetes that I know of I should say, I go to Dr Oct 5 for my referral. I know how to lose weight, I do great for awhile then I gain it all back and more ;(

My husband says I snore like a drunk sailor and he's heard me stop breathing in the night, I'm achy and dribble a lot Im ashamed and embarrassed to say.

my blood pressure the other day was normal/ high... It's always just been normal but I've gained 60 lbs in less than a year so I'm sure that factors in.

ive just recently started to look into the sleeve as zi know nothing about but I did hear it was a much easier surgery on your body.

I don't know exactly what 'much easier surgery on your body' means exactly.

If you look at the top of that page, you will see a search icon (magnifying glass), click on that and type in RNY vs. Sleeve and you will get all kinds of responses, as this question gets asked a lot.

5' 5" tall. VSG on August 4, 2015/ Starting weight 239.9/ Surgery weight 210.9/ Current weight 137.4/ Goal weight 140/ No longer overweight, now a NORMAL weight. Now that I'm at goal, it's time to move on to maintenance!!!!!!!!

the sleeve is an easier surgery on your body because there is no rerouting  of your organs , the malformation  with the rny lasts only 12-18 months

the sleeve gives you a better life style , no food getting stuck , no dumping ( its very rare), no reactive hypoglycemia

I lost over 150 lb am off all diabetes meds , more active

Wow thankyou so much? Do you lose weight at a slower rate? The amount of weight you lose and the speed at which its at with GBS scares me, I'd like to take it slower if possible.
