How long was everyone's process from when you met with Dr. to have surgery
I had to attend a seminar first and then got to schedule an appointment with the surgeon, probabably July 2012. I had to do 6 months of supervised weight-loss but messed up and missed a month so I had to start over. My surgery date was 5-24-13. So from beginning to end the whole process was about a year for me.
Everyone's answer will be different because a lot depends on what your particular insurance plan requires. Of course if you're self-pay that will shorten the process a bit.
Thank you. I do know my insurance does not require anything. Everything is up to my Doctor and what she wants from me before she will do the surgery. On your 6 month wait did you have to loose much weight?
then it will totally depend on your surgeons schedule.

You likely won't get a surgery date for quite a while; you'll need to do all of your clearances first, both for insurance and for your doctor. That may include supervised diets, gathering paperwork and/or referrals, things like blood work and sleep studies and cardiac clearance, etc.
My insurance required a 3-month supervised diet. I had my first appointment with the surgeon in late August, got a surgery date just before Thanksgiving, and had surgery the second week of December.

I met with my surgeon in March 2015. I had to do a 3 month medically supervised plan with my primary doctor and dietician for my insurance. And for the surgeon I needed a psych consult, 3 nutrition visits, blood work, EKG, upper GI series., and referrals and so much paperwork. My insurance did not require a certain amount of weight to be lost prior to surgery. But they did want a 3 month documentation of my weight, diet I was following, and exercise plan from my primary doctor. Everything was submitted to my insurance in July 2015. My insurance gave approval one week later. My surgery was sheduled for 9/3/15. I am now 3 weeks post op.
