Hello!

Surgery date October 5th....

So my doctor has told me that I do not have any sort of pre-op liquid diet, but I am reading here that many people have had to do that. What was your experience???

You (and me) aren't the norm.  All plans are different but it seems that most people have a 1-2 week liquid diet.

No liquid diet for me either. Just "nothing by mouth after 8pm" the day before.

Mine is October 12th and I am in the middle of my 3 week liquid diet.  It has been horrible. Honestly I lost more weight if I had a salad with grilled chicken daily. The weight loss with the liquid has been extremely slow. It has been 4 days and I am only down 1 pound. It is very frustrating. Wish you the best of luck with your surgery. :)

I lost 17 lbs. on my own during the 6-month supervised diet so the surgeon told me I didn't need to do a pre-op liquid diet. Thank goodness!

I start my surgeon mandated 2 week liquid diet tomorrow.  Surgery is October 8th.  He said it shrinks the liver making surgery safer.  The liver is smaller and out of the way which reduces the chance of nicks or cuts to the liver which then = bleeding.

That's what I was told also but I only had one week of liquid diet no food at all...just shakes.  One week post op ...n doing fine...my post op diet had shake one a day n 2T of hot cereal,sf jello,sf poscicles,or 2T Greek or light yogurt...for three meals a day.

Congrats on a surgery date.  You will see that everyone has different experiences based on their doctor or NUT.

For me I was on a 2 week pre op diet of liquids for breakfast and lunch and a lean meal in the evening (lean meat and 2 cups of vegetables), no carbs, no soda. But 2 days prior to surgery liquids only.

I didn't have a liquid diet either. I ate "light" foods two days before, liquids the day before, nothing after midnight. Be happy!
