Post-Op Menstruation
My periods used to be absolutely horrific when I was young which is why I was on BCP for the last 20 years. I stopped taking them about 9 months ago and figured my period would return as the horrific experience it had been and that I'd get back on BCP as soon as possible.
Instead, my periods have been amazing. Very little pain, very little in the way of mood swings.. both of these things used to be unspeakably awful.
I figure that it's either the weight loss, or that I'm in the best shape of my entire life, or what, but I will take it. I'm happy not to be adding hormones into my system! (Of course, I'd be happier to not menstruate at all, but that's a different issue.)

I have an IUD, so before surgery I only got spotting every few months at best, and the occasional mild cramp (before IUD had heavy periods for a solid 7-8 days every month). After surgery I started getting my period back every month, but it was still super light. Now I've swapped the IUD out since the 5 years was up and things have actually been even a bit more frequent, but it's only been about 2 months and I think changing the IUD has screwed with my cycle timing and my body is still trying to reset to a new norm. I'm hoping that I can get back to just the light spotting every few months because, well, obviously that was much easier to deal with!
It seems like everyone reacts a little differently to the weight loss and hormonal changes.
I'm just 7 weeks post-op. I've had 2 periods since surgery, and have experienced increased cramping pain, as well as heavier flow. I hope this is temporary, and my body will readjust as I lose weight and exercise more.
I had a similar experience for my periods during my pre-op liquid diet and my first period post-op. They were just awful. Some of the worst I've ever had. But I also suspect it might have something to do with the fact that I was told I had to stop taking my birth control pill prior to surgery to avoid blood clots. I'm back on it now, and it should be here any day now. I'm hoping it will ease up this time around.
I exercise a ton and my periods are worse than ever :(

I have the IUD as well. My periods were close to nonexistent prior to surgery. Now there back. Like clockwork. It's kind of a bummer. ;)
You're very lucky! My periods became much worse after surgery, in fact it started in the hospital 2 weeks early. They got so bad that I had an ablation at 8 months post op (April of this year). Unfortunately that failed and I continue to get horrible periods :(
