New Post-Op - and now lactose intolerant?

I'm so sad!  Did great for about a week after surgery, then started with the gas and toilet time.  lol  Doc says I'm probably lactose intolerant now for a temporary while.  Off to The Vitamin Shoppe to get some lactose-free protein powder.  Anybody else have this problem?  Any suggestions on what else to eat?  Feeling like a total newbie in the land of VSG.  :-)  Thanks!

It's not uncommon, quite a few people on here have reported the same issue.  Some have said they can still do cheese and yogurt but have issues with fluid milk.  It's normally what you mix with the protein powder that's the problem, not the protein powder itself.

Most 100% whey protein isolate powders have the lactose filtered out of them.  However, if you're buying a "blend" or "concentrate" you're still going to get lactose.  Make sure you are buying 100% whey protein isolate protein powder and that you're mixing it up with almond milk or something like that.

I had the same issue with drinking milk for immediately post-op but after 2 months everything returned to normal and can tolerate milk like normal.

Can't do milk, and protein powder has to be Whey Protein Isolate for me. I still eat a fair amount of dairy, as long as it is low in lactose. Sometimes it still upsets my stomach. Yogurt seems to be fine.

I had a hard time digesting anything the first week after surgery. It takes some trial and error to figure out what will work for you, and your tolerances will change as you go.
