Liver Not Shrunk Enough?

it's not weight loss that shrinks the liver.  it's eating very low carbohydrates (less glycogen storage) and eating very little of things like grains and fats that cause inflammation (swelling) in the liver.  Some people are more prone to this than others.  Some pre-op plans are not restrictive enough in the areas.  And of course, some people dont actually still to their pre-op plan very well ... a big 'last meal' a couple days before surgery might be enough to enlarge the liver making it difficult to do the surgery (the liver basically gets folded in half during surgery so they are access the stomach well.)

some people are under the impression that the pre-op plan is jsut to lose weight.  and while it's true that it's meant to remove a lot of the fat around the liver and stomach ... it's also about that liver flexibility.   Its easy to see hwo someone might lose 30 lbs and think they are in the clear for surgery, then have a big meal too closeto operation day.  it's rare to see surgeries cancelled, but it happens!

shakes and green veggies for 2-4 weeks pre-op ... its doable!

That's utterly ridiculous.  That surgeon in question didn't have to cancel surgery, they could have simply done an open procedure instead of lap.  This is a good subject to bring up with your doc, and make sure that it's noted that you're perfectly okay with an open procedure in the event that he cannot do it lap.
