Soup and the Drinking While Eating Rule?
Hello fellow sleevers!
I have an odd question for you because it's something I am having trouble wrapping my brain around. I know why we can't eat while/after we eat. I have watched that very informative video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR0VM3mnsgM) about how our mini-tummy works and how we need to give our bodies time to process the food we just ate, and not flu**** out, etc. But...how does this work in regards to soup? If I eat soup, am I really helping my food flush out faster and thus increasing my chance of getting hungry again sooner? Am I flushing out valuable nutrients too quickly? Is eating soup really just a "waste" of calories in that regard?
I have been reluctant to eat soup due to this, but with Fall around the corner, would love to incorporate more soups for lunch and/or dinner.
Any advice is appreciated!

Whenever I have soup, even now at almost 4 years out, I always eat/drink the broth and then eat the "stuff" in it after most of the liquid is gone. Has worked for me so far. I rarely have soup anymore though. I do still love the occasional cup of hot and sour soup at my favorite Chinese place, but that's about it. Oh, Christmas time I always have home made french onion soup, too!
I will have to try that route! I love french onion soup and can't wait to be able to indulge during the holidays!!

I'm a big soup eater.....I will drink the broth first Once the broth is gone I will then eat the solids. I typically do this with chili, vegtable beef, chicken noddle minus the noddles, french onion minus ths crouton or toasted bread.

My program doesn't allow soup for its patients because of the "no drinking while eating rule." It's exactly the same thing as taking a plateful of meat and veggies and eating them while taking sips of broth. So, it's a no-go under my plan.
That is interesting! My program doesn't really mention soup at all, but that makes total sense.

That video pops up every so often.....
Not very accurate to VSG, aimed at RNY and LapBand.

I thought that might be the case since he does keep talking about pouches and the funnel created by the lapband, but it comes up soooo much in one of my post-WLS Facebook groups as the "go to" explanation for why no drinking is allowed post-eating, I figured it would apply to VSG as well.

I was told I can eat soup - broth first, solids last. I also try to avoid overly noodly or rice-filled soups. They've been hugely helpful for getting protein in, though, that's not a shake.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
