Colonoscopy

Hi, haven't been here in a while, but hope to visit more often. I have a question at this late date: I have a colonoscopy tomorrow. Had a meeting last Friday in preparation and told the nurse that I had a VSG last year. She didn't seem to be concerned about it. Are there any issues with having a colonoscopy after VSG?

There shouldn't be an issue with it!  (My mom just had one a few weeks ago and the prep seemed super easy too, she just had to mix miralax with gatorade!)

Hi Gwen. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am doing Miralax and Dulcalax. Have to drink my other 32 ounces at 3:30 AM. Take care :)

6 months after surgery, I had my second colonoscopy to remove polyps discovered during my endo/colonoscopy. I had to start drinking the prep a little earlier than the directions stayed.  At one year post-op, I had my third colonoscopy to remove the last of the polyps and didn't have to do anything different from the instructions.

The polyps were precancerous but I do not have colon cancer.  If I hadn't had the colonoscopy with the endoscopy for my vsg, those polyps would've become cancer within 3 to 5 years.

Whew!

Wow Jo, I am glad you had that done! I have polyps too, found out 15 years ago. Have to have a colonoscopy every 5 years now. It was supposed to take me an hour to drink the first 32 ounces, it took me 2 and I was sipping the whole time. However, it is doing the job LOL.

Yay on no cancer!!!

And, great example as to why colonoscopies are so important. I know of 2 people that both went for their screening colonoscopies and one was diagnosed with colon cancer, the other with colo-rectal cancer!  Both had surgery, radiation and chemo treatments.

It's a horrible cancer... but is beatable through proper screenings.

I'm an nurse and colons and endos is one of my departments. You shouldn't have any problems or have to do anything special because of your surgery. The prep is the worst part. The procedure itself is very quick and easy for you. Hang in there with the prep. Good luck!

I have had a couple since without issue. Just avoid using full sugar gatorade as part of hte prep- use a zero calorie version.
