Medical alert bracelets?
I'm thinking of getting a medical alert bracelet. I'm going to have a VSG. Any suggestions for what to put on the bracelet? I think I should spell out vertical sleeve gastrectomy and my name. Anything else?

Blood type, allergies and I've been told to tell paramedics and emergency personnel "Partial Gastrectomy".
Many will not know the term Vertical Sleeve or Sleeve or VSG.

There is no reason that we need a medical alert bracelet after VSG.

That's not what my hospital says. I'm not sure if it's recommended for newly operated on people only so they know your symptoms could point to a post-op issue. And specifically our instructions say to include no Blind NG tubing.
I'm getting one just in case. I can't take NSAIDs due to my ulcerative colitis, so I can have two lovely pieces of info.

The only tube they would place in an emergency is a breathing tube. There's no danger from that, it simply doesn't go in very far. An NG tube is very long, and could cause damage. But it isn't used in any emergency. It's primary use is for feeding. By the time they get around to using that, you'd be able to explain your medical history, or they'd have it from other sources.

In an emergency, if you were unconscious, would you rather have an NSAID or die, if that was the choice?

in the event of an emergency I would refuse an NSAID. For me, it is a very serious and potentially life threatening class of medication. But, thanks for asking.
