I feel like a failure
For now, throw away the scale!
Let me give you a different perspective - I have no idea how much I lost in my first week or tenth week. At 11 years plus out, all that matters is that I am still working my tool. You have made a lifelong commitment to your health and wellbeing. Don't sweat the small stuff, look at the big picture of this journey you have undertaken.

You are not a failure - at all. If you are doing what you are supposed to do and following the plan you have been given you will lose weight. This is a highly emotional and vulnerable time for people... so know that you aren't alone in feeling this way. BUT, you are not a failure. Unfortunately, you have to look at weight loss over time. The body is a strange thing. When I was losing, I would stall for two weeks at a time. I would complain to my husband that I wasn't losing weight and then I would drop almost 10 lbs in two weeks and tell him I was losing so quickly that it was actually starting to scare me! lol....
Also, I hit the "three week stall" in week two. Stalls can happen any time. There will be more along the way, so I highly recommend finding support (therapy, support group, a friend, etc.) to help talk you through these times...

Before my surgery I read a million posts of people hitting an early stall and worrying. I was so judgemental...I kept wondering why everyone was panicking when clearly it's so common...
And then it happened to me, and I TOTALLY got it. There has to be a small part of all of us that defies logic/math/science and thinks "I'm going to be a statistical anomaly and be the only person who can eat 400 calories and still be fat".
But you aren't! None of us are. You will do this! It will happen! Chin up and don't forget to tell us when the scale finally moves!

I dropped weight by the bucketful in the first two months post-op, but it happened because I was so sick with complications I couldn't eat, and even worse, couldn't drink.
I would far far rather have been in your situation and had slow weight loss from the beginning and remained healthy.
Count your blessings.

I had surgery 23 days ago and hit my "3 week stall" a week early. I was at 266 for about a week and then suddenty I was down at 264. You WILL lose weight; your body is just freaking out right now--it's realized that no, it isn't starving, this is how life is now, so it's adjusting all of its systems to eat less of the fat you have stored.
I know exactly how you feel--I was having the same thoughts. You may not believe it right now, but you WILL lose weight. It may not be 8 pounds a week--hell, you may only lose 1 pound, or the scale might not move at all because while you lost a pound of fat, you gained a pound of muscle. Even if you only lose an ounce or two a week, that's still a loss.
I know you're discouraged, but keep it up. You are NOT a failure--you're amazing to have made it to this point; there's no stopping you now!!

I only lose two to three days a week. The other four to five, nothing. But I have lost a significant amount of weight since my surgery. If you can't cope with the scale staying the same several days in a row, then only weigh yourself one day a week. Also make sure you are weighing at the same time of day in the same amount of clothing. I always weigh right before I get in the shower because I know that is when I will get the lowest weight. I always weigh more later in the day.

How fast were you expecting to lose weight? What sort of expectations did your surgeon give you? Since 9 pounds in 11 days seems pretty freaking amazing to me.

Seriously? You're not being realistic. Perhaps you should do more reading. You will not lose every day. You may gain some days. You may hit stalls where you will not lose for weeks at a time. That does not mean you're a failure. Sometimes you will not lose weight, but your body will shed inches.
Follow your doctor's plan and you will lose weight. But don't expect to reach goal by a specific date. Follow the plan and you will lose weight and you will reach goal.
If you take the attitude that you've failed, then you are doomed to failure. Stick to the plan. You'll be buying smaller clothes in no time.
Don't give up.
