I just realized the Dr Im thinking of doing my sleeve in Louisiana is not Board Certified in Bariatrics. He is Board Certified in General surgery but thats not the same thing. Would you pick a Dr thats not Board Cert. In Bariatrics??

I personally would not. However, I would discuss your concerns with the surgeon.  I went to three different surgeons before I settled for the one I had my surgery with.  One of them was not Board of Excellence in Bariatrics Certified, so Medicare would not pay for it until he got his certification.  He was willing to get his certification, however it was going to take several months of waiting to do so.  He needed several more surgeries "under his belt" in order to have his certification.  I just felt more comfortable with a surgeon that was already certified.  The surgeon I had chose, actually has been certified for over 10 years, which made me feel very comfortable in his ability and knowledge in the field.

What state are you in? I ask bc this Dr that I speak of is the only Dr in my state that accepts medicaid, and medicaid does pay this surgeon. It seems medicare/medicaid would have the same guildlines?

I went to Health grades and thats where I saw that he was only Board Cert. as a General Surgeon.

I live in the state of Missouri.  Medicaid is at the state level and those guidelines do change from state to state.  Medicare is at the federal level and I'm not sure that those guidelines change from state to state.

No way. Find someone who is board certified. This isn't a simple "general" surgery.
