Question from a newbie
I have a question that I haven't been able to really get answered through the research I have done so far. With the sleeve, do you get sick if you eat too much? Do you feel nausea or pain? Or is it more of a feeling of fullness? Or do you just have no appetite? Once you have lost the weight, does this continue? I just want to understand better what keeps one from eating so much. Thanks!
I am just over a year post op. I do have an appetite, and I do get hungry. I can only eat small amounts though since my stomach is smaller.
Once I hit my limit, I am done. If I eat even one more bite, I feel sick, and my stomach hurts. There's no way I can physically eat another bite. I do feel fullness. Extreme fullness. Can't eat another crumb fullness.
Once I did eat too much, and I threw up. Lesson learned. Now, I am very mindful when I eat, and I eat very slowly. One bite at a time. Sometimes I have had to spit out that last bite when i've hit my limit.
It's taken me this long to learn my body's cues, and to know when to stop.
You'll figure it out :)
I feel disgustingly full when I eat too much. I do have an appetite, but I only really get hungry when it's time to eat. Which is a nice change! Hunger is no longer something that I have to respond to, it's more easily ignored.

I'm still new (4 1/2 weeks out) but I feel both pain and nausea if I have one bite too many. Twice I've run to the bathroom thinking I've had too much and was going to be sick but never vomited. I know some folks have said they have cues such as a burp or hiccup to let them know to stop. I don't have that yet, just tracking portion size for now.

When I overeat, first my nose runs. If I eat more, I feel discomfort. If I really overdo it, I get the foamies - this is the body making mucus because it thinks something is stuck in the digestive track. It is not pleasant, and I try to avoid it.
In terms of appetite, there was a period where I had no appetite and had to force myself to eat, but it didn't persist. Now my appetite is back, and I want to eat more than I can fit into my tummy, and more than I need to maintain. So there is still a battle of controlling my eating. But with the sleeve, I win the battle, whereas before, over-eating would win.
I like to say that the sleeve doesn't make it easy, but it makes it possible. I was 385 pounds pre-sleeve and I now weight 160. So it does work. But it is still an effort - I have to follow my plan and I have to watch my calories and carbs. But before I failed and now I succeed.
Its the best thing I've ever done for myself. I highly recommend it.
