Went for EGD and surgeon found larger than expected hiatel hernia and now he wants to see me for office visit on 3rd of Sept. I am freaking, thinking they can't do my sleeve or HIATEL hernia surgery first!!! Has this happened to anyone??

My surgeon repaired my hiatal hernia during my VSG surgery. I hope yours will do the same for you!

Good luck. Keep us posted!

My surgeon repaired my large hiatal hernia during VSG surgery. I had very little discomfort. Good luck

I had a large hiatal hernia that was repaired during the sleeve surgery. I believe that's pretty standard. The surgeon may just want to inform you that the hernia must be repaired during your sleeve surgery. The extra work will prolong the surgery, and you need to be fully informed of that.

BTW, a hiatal hernia is not removed. It happens when part of the stomach protrudes through the diaphragm. The surgeon closes the hernia with several stitches.

I, too, had my hiatal hernia repaired when I had my sleeve done.  That was 4 weeks ago and from day one I've been fine.  My operation was 6.5 hours though, as when my Doc went in, my stomach had adhesions attached to my left lung.  GREAT news is, I don't get out of breath anymore and I love my surgeon.

All will be good and try not to worry.
