I failed my Lap band,  my Dr. now recommends the Sleeve.  I sometimes over eat and I love condiments.  What are the goods and bads for the sleeve?

Thank you.

My band slipped after 4 yrs. I converted to sleeve Dec.2014..absolutely the best thing I did..Love everything bout it..Can eat everything without chocking or forced to eat sliders...Sugery was better than band and I lost 70 lbs....Good luck

Before you have another surgery, what are YOU willing to commit to yourself to be successful?  The VSG will give you restriction just like the band, so you can eat everything you did before.  Overeating will likely get much easier as time goes by and you may find yourself in the same place.  What then?

You didn't fail your lap band; it failed you. I got one in 2004, lost 20 pounds initially from surgery recovery, then regained the 20 and went on to gain 60 more pounds. The docs could never find the "sweet spot" for the fill. I could either eat everything or nothing, sometimes not even water. After five years of misery, I finally had them take out all the fill, so I could eat almost normally again. Had it taken out altogether during the revision to a sleeve in Feb. of this year.

Sleeve pros: Good, steady restriction. Suppression of appetite. Normal digestion process. Permanent. AND IT WORKS!

Sleeve cons: Appetite will eventually return. Surgery more involved and risky than the band. Longer adjustment time post-op to get back to normal foods.

Edited to add: A bariatric nurse from Johns Hopkins told me that the band doesn't work for 60% of patients who get it.
