Starting maintenance

I have never had an actual "goal weight". I have always said I just want to get to a point that I feel good and am healthy. I have lost 86 lbs and am now in a size 12. I feel amazing and this is where I want to be. So I am now working on finding that wonderful balance of maintaining. Feeling blessed to have had this surgery!

This is different from diets like Weigh****chers.  There is not a maintence where you go back to eating like before surgery.

If you stick to your plan your body will stop losing on its own. 

People who try to eat more to stop losing often have it backfire and end up with significant regain.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends

Hi White Dove,

My experience was different from what you describe.  I did have to add more calories to stop my weight loss.  I did it carefully, and adopted a new plan with more calories, but I've been successful at holding at my goal weight. 

I think maintenance has to be viewed at a "new plan" rather than a "all done and eat whatever I like"  but some of us do need to add calories when we reach our goal weight.

Thanks to the OP for asking this question. I saw my surgeon Fri for my seventh month post-op and the Wt Goal she thought I should strive for is just 17 pounds less than I currently weigh. My Goal (which is based on what I was in my 30's so prob unrealistic) was 20 pounds more in addition to this 17. I am now out of Plus Sizes and wearing a Large or 16 in Misses, and size 12/ Medium is my Clothes Goal, so I will see if this is my size in 17 more pounds. I do agree with Cappy's approach and do believe in doing this by carefully & dilegently adding back calories in the form of Protein, Vegs & Fruit. :-) Kay

For me maintenance does NOT mean eat like I did before! My goal is to follow the plan just increasing what I eat just enough to maintain where I am at. Everyone has their vision of goal and this is mine:)
