Happy Friday!

I am considering purchasing a FIT BIT but am looking for your honest opinion on yours.  Do you like it?  Does it help?  Would you purchase it again or purchase something else?  Other feedback?

Thanks!!

Sits on my night stand.  Don't need it anymore.  A good gps watch and heart rate chest strap are the way to go  IMHO.  Most phones will count your steps these days.

I've had a few of the different trackers. I had an original Jawbone bracelet, and a Fitbit zip. They worked fine when I was at the office, but I tended to take them off when I got home for the day, so not super useful.

I've since taken to wearing a smar****ch-- first an original Pebble, now an Android watch (LG G Watch). The pedometer works well and it syncs to my phone automatically. Plus I can log bike rides and such since they plug into MapMyRide. Since a Pebble costs about the same as some of the other trackers ($90ish) and you get all those extra bells and whistles, I'd rather take that route.

Meh... Mine sits on a shelf in the office. I used it for a few months. Found it to be a total pain in the butt. The one thing that it was good for, for me anyway, was getting me to consciously add steps to my day. The sleep monitor function was useless because it was terribly inaccurate.

I often find that these gadgets work only to motivate most people for a short time, then it's back to normal. I am one of those people. I'm glad mine was a gift, because paying over $100 for something that turned out to be useless to me would really be annoying! LOL!

I think you need to ask yourself if the Fitbit idea is appealing like a new diet that comes along is appealing. No matter what, it's still going to boil down to what you choose to put in your mouth as far as the weight goes. If you're interested in tracking activity, I believe there are far better methods with which to do that. Just my opinion.

Of course, there are those who would vehemently disagree with my stance on Fitbit. I know a few people who are 100% faithful to the Fitbit and wear it everyday.

I have had my Fitbit for 1.5 years, and love it. I was never very good at doing any kind of activity, but my Fitbit was very helpful in getting me moving. The longest I ever lasted at the gym or an exercise program would be a few months. I can honestly say that the only times I have not gotten in at least 10K steps in a day since I got my Fitbit were due to medical reasons. It may not be for everyone but it's the nudge I need.

I like it if you want to track your steps.  However when you have it on your arm and you are pushing a shopping cart it does not record your steps! You have to swing your arm to get it to record.  I think a cheaper pedometer does just as good.

Unfortunately, the cheaper pedometers never worked for me in the past. They would never fit on my pants and work correctly. Nothing is more discouraging than to have your pedometer reset randomly in the middle of the day. I have heard the problem with the shopping cart and Fitbits, but since I spend minimal time pushing a shopping cart, it isn't a problem for me.

I LOVE my Fit*****arge and I wore the Force before that (the one that was recalled), so I'm guessing I've been wearing one for around 2 years. If I had it to do over again, I would get the Charge HR I think. I make it my mission to "green it out" every day - hitting my step, overall distance, active minutes, stairs, and calories burned goals.  I also think it's a better measure of TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) than random online calculators, and use a running average to make sure that I'm staying in a good food calorie range.

The competition aspect of it is also fun; I have several Fitbit friends that consistently have 100,000 step weeks and I'm determined to hit that range once my marathon training starts for real. ;) But, I have gone from averaging 7,000 steps/day (and I'm sure it was way lower than that before I actually tracked anything) to averaging 14,000+ steps/day now.

During runs I use a Garmin Forerunner 220 with a heart rate strap (which I would recommend for runners, but it's not a daily activity tracker), but I don't run every day and I always have my Fitbit on.

Basically, I'm a data nerd and I like to track all the things. haha.
