Is my sleevw too small?

So I will be 4 weeks post op this Saturday and I swear I can't eat an ounce of meat.  I feel like I'm not eating enough. 3 or 4 bites of food and I'm done.  I guess that's the point of the sleeve huh.....Lol.  A baby can eat more than I can.  It's sometimes frustrating especially when it gets stuck in my throat.

Are you chewing very, very thoroughly and taking small bites?  Otherwise, seems normal.  I was only eating soft foods at 4 weeks and only about 2 ounces at a time.

Yes I make sure I chew my food very well.  It doesn't happen all the time.  I started eating smaller bites but some food just doesn't go down well. So I stick with what I know works and try solid foods. Just doesn't seem like I'm eating enough.

Remember you had surgery & your new tummy is most likely still swollen.  As you said, stick with foods that go down easy and try different foods that are soft and cooked with moisture like poached fish, eggs, ricotta or cottage cheese. Check out recipes on sites like Pinterest, Bariatric Eating & the World According to Eggface for recipes for your eating stage. Stay away from white carbs, get in your protein & stay hydrated. Don't worry you will be able to eat more as you heal. Good luck!

You're right about not eating enough.  As you said, that's the point, haha!  Your body will need to burn your stored fat (and some muscle) in order to get enough fuel. Make sure that what little you do eat is protein, to help keep your muscle mass up.  And, be sure you're drinking enough, your body can't make up a deficit in hydration.

I had the same experience, where I could only eat an ounce to 1.5 ounces per meal at 4 weeks post op.  My NP said that it was swelling in the tummy and that it usually improved at 7 weeks post op.  My capacity did increase at 7 weeks as predicted, and I suspect yours will too.

So hang in there, and take advantage of the weight loss in these early weeks!

best wishes,

Carol

My food plan didn't allow meat until 9 weeks.as everyone else has mentioned, at 4 weeks I was barely at soft foods.

I know it can seem scary like we will die from starvation but unless there is a mechanical problem like a stricture causing your food not to pass through, it is most likely, at 4 weeks post op, still the swelling and healing that is causing this.

Drink as much as you can in small quantities throughout your day and maximise the weight loss early on. Believe me we were all there at the start thinking the same thing and now I wonder how one can get back to that or almost that kind of restriction.

Thank you guys for that very helpful information!!!   I did like seeing 23 pounds come off this body of mine!  I will stay on soft foods for a while and add more protein to my diet.
