Just get some lactaid chewables, you can keep them in your purse and just chew one when you want milk or they also make a lactaid milk so you don't have to give it up at all. I was lactaid intolerant for awhile after surgery but it eventually went away.

Switch to unsweetened almond milk. Yum!

The lactose is partially digested by the bacteria that turns the milk into cheese. That's why many people mild lactose intolerance can still eat cheese. Many times the lactose intolerance is only short term post VSG. Try using Lactaid for the time being. You can also switch to almond or soy milk. I started using almond milk very early on just to cut down on carbs. I've grown very fond of it and only use real milk for a shake when I run out of almond milk. (I now buy unsweetened almond milk in cases of 6 at Costco. Best price and doesn't need to be stored in the fridge!)

My NUT told me it's common to have trouble with milk right after surgery.  She recommends lactaid or almond milk.

I felt horrible drinking milk post-op too but can say that about 3 months out I tried it again and was fine. I've been drinking 8 oz each day with no aide effects. Give it time!

I could neither eat cheese nor drink milk, both of which I love, in my first 6 weeks after surgery.  But it went away and I do both now.

Get some Kroger Carbmaster Milk.. It's 60 calories per cup with 11g of protein, 3 carbs and it's lactose free.

I have the same problem, myself.  If I really need straight milk, I make it half and half or heavy whipping cream, for it has much less lactose.
