Sleevers: do you judge how the non-sleeved eat?
This might have been asked in another topic, sorry if I'm being repetitive. It just amazes me that I know notice how other people (non-sleeved) eat? I see huge amounts of food everywhere! Giant portions of mashed potatoes, dinosaur sized steaks! I say nothing, I keep my mouth shut, but I do judge. I know it's wrong. Am I the only one?
All those years I hurt myself eating gigantic portions in one sitting :( I suppose I see my old self reflected in them.
I think that is a very common reaction - especially early out. At 3.5 years out I eat what I now consider normal sized portions (3 - 3 1/2 oz of meat, 1/4 - 1/2 cup veggie or a cup of salad). I'm still taken aback sometimes when I see people eating what have become normal portions in today's culture, whi*****identally are smaller than what I could pack away 4 years ago.
Yes! My husband and I both notice...and what we notice the most is the tons of carbs loaded on every meal plate. It's just crazy, no wonder so many people have weight issues out there....huge portions and tons of carbs.

I most certainly judge and can't help comment sometimes. Generally at restaurants. I know its bad but can't help but think that each time I see it

i do look at it like wow i use to eat that much! i mustve been such a pig! that's a lot to eat. what we eat now is regular proportion. we aren't under eating they are over eating
In the first few weeks post-op no. BUT, I had a stint over the first couple months where it evolved from noticing the large portion sizes/poor choices to becoming a bit self-rightous as my habits continued to develop into more positive ones. Then one day I just realized how incredibly judgemental it was, and that I was never intending to be "that person". I stopped it immediately from that point forward. Just like preop I would positively fixate on food, it was just a different version of this bad habit. It is important to acknowledge your positive choices all the way through the process, but let go of the judgement and more negative thought processes! It is not helpful to your journey, and if projected onto others not helpful to them as well!

I remember vividly sitting in a restaurant several months after surgery and the overweight couple two tables over kept ordering more food...and more food...and they kept eating and eating.
I don't get judgmental - I get incredibly sad and feel compassion because I recognize many others have the same serious problem I still have: I'm a compulsive eater and without OA, this surgery and all the other tools, I would have eaten myself into a very early grave.
You might feel judgmental but turn it around into compassion - other people just haven't figured it out yet. Consider yourself fortunate that you did.
Like Tracy, I feel compassion when I see people eating piles of food. I often wonder what other people thought of me...at Chinese buffets..,.I would end up with three trips to the buffet tables...and I would layer the food on my plate. First trip was appetisers, second trip was "the main meal", third trip was " just a bit more" of my facorites--lo mein, egg foo young, Peking ravioli, boneless spare ribs. I would be stuffed.
I don't do buffets any more.,.if I step into a Chinese restaurant I order Won Ton soup, minus the Won Ton, and chicken wings, and I always have leftovers.
I want to go over to people and tell them about the wonders of WLS and how it changed my life......but then I figure when they are ready to make a change they will find the answer.
It is amazing how much food is on a restaurant plate...no wonder so many people are obese. 😕

I don't know that judgement is the right word for what I do, but I am definitely a heck of a lot more aware of these things.
