Around what month does the weight loss really slow down?

I will be 7 months post op on the 21st, and I have heard weight loss slows after 6 months. I know stalls are part of the process but they still make you crazy. I guess I really just want to know to give myself realistic expectations on what to expect in the future.

I really think it depends on the individual, their post op diet, exercise level and genetics. Many people seem to slow down around 6 months, but I have observed over a few years that A LOT of people who slow down at the six month mark also ease up on their food plan.

Another possibility is those who are close to goal at 6 months out. I was and I did slow a bit around 6 months. I lost 6.5 pounds in May of 2012, 5 pounds in June 2012, and the last 3.5 pounds during the first 2.5 weeks of July. That took me to goal. That was slower than the 12 pounds per month I averaged in months 2,3, and 4.

I think the best thing to do is make sure you stay on a proven weight loss promoting program, measuring and tracking what you eat, and knowing that the weight will follow.

The first six months is generally the fastest weight loss.  After six months I lost less than five pounds a month and some months stayed the same.  The post-op planner in the resources at the top of this page can give you a realistic prediction.

It varies a lot. But I do see a trend among those who post their monthly losses. The first month is the largest, though not usually by a lot. Then it is fairly steady for a few months. There is often a pronounced dip at around the six month mark. Then it increases a bit for a few months, then trails off.

Again, this is an unscientific and very general outline of what I have seen. I've always wondered about that month 6 dip. Maybe it's like the three week stall.

For me, it wasn't as much of a time period as it was a certain weight.  Poor grammar, sorry.  What I'm trying to say is that it felt like I was in the 180's and the 160's forever...

Check my ticker for the progression. It is entirely possible to continue losing. Usually if people level off it is due to becoming lax on the food intake/weight loss phase fatigue. Hang in there!
