Easy-Peasy Eating Out On Vacation at 6 Months Out :-)
Just returned from a 7-day vacation. Road Trip, part of time visiting family. At 6 months out, it was no problem eating out and at other's houses. And to add to the positives, I never told my family we visited about my WLS, but they did not question my smaller eaten amounts. They could tell I had lost a lot of weight (80 pounds so far) but they hadn't seen me for a year, so they don't know I lost it in just 6 months. As usual I ate protein first and then veggies. When my husband and I ate out, we'd "split" a meal (1/4 for me, 3/4s for him) or I would order a protein appetizer if one available. It was so wonderful to feel like I was still eating normally among others who who didn't know I had WLS. Woo Hoo!
I hope this encourages those of you who are pre-op or in the early stages post-op...One does feel normal again eventually after WLS!
Kay :-)

This is definitely encouraging! Thank you for posting!!! Eating at family functions post surgery was a concern for me.
I'm only a few days away from surgery, and have a vacation (pre-planned) only 3 months after surgery.
Congrats on your weight loss so far!!! Keep rocking that sleeve!!!!
This is great to read. I have found that I have no issues eating out of the house - even if I don't have a lot of options all the time. There is always something that works well for my way of eating.

Leaving for vacation at just under three months, tomorrow. I always keep an emergency bag of water, protein drinks in cartons, and unflavored protein powder, as well as some Quest bars in my trunk. I've told hotels I need a refrigerator for medical reasons, and they have been very accommodating. Will make sure to pick up Greek yogurt upon arrival. I'm bringing my food scale, and will use it proudly !😎

Just returned from two 4 day mini-vacations.... one a wine trail trip through the upper Midwest and the other a long weekend at a friend's timeshare in Branson. Sharing with my wife worked well, obviously didn't do as well as I wanted as far as weight loss goes. Thankfully not on vacation full-time yet!! I did lose a minimal amount of weight which pleased me because my food intake was not entirely appropriate. It really goes pretty well eating out. Just eat the protein first as many suggest and then enjoy the other until that full feeling takes over. The wine trail included many tastings which I was able to handle. Shared a tasting with my wife which worked well. I have yet to be susceptible to dumping, I don't know if it is because I haven't ate or drank that much sugars at one time or whether my system just handles the sugars better than others.....
