My Question of the Day!
I had an upper GI series and H. pylori test prior to getting my surgery date. The H. pylori test was done in my surgeon's office and the upper GI series was scheduled by his office using the same imaging department in the hospital they use. After my surgery date was set, they scheduled me for a half-day pre-admission with the hospital, where I did my co-pay and went over other paperwork (consent forms, living will, etc.) as well as having bloodwork drawn, EKG, and chest x-ray.
My surgeon only required an EKG, chest x-ray, and bloodwork all scheduled & completed the day before surgery.

I am self-pay as well and the only things that were included in the cost were the anesthesia, surgeon and hospital fees. For the pre-op testing I had to pay for everything. So what I paid out of pocket included: endoscopy (which was done at the hospital and set me back another $1k because although they ran it through my insurance, I had not met any of my $700 deductible for the year), pre-op testing (blood work, ekg, and chest x-ray) was another $175 (they ran it through my insurance it would have been $350 without my insurance) and then another $200 for vitamins and protein shakes that my doctors office required me to buy from him (he says the first 2 weeks you need bariatric specific protein shakes).
Hope this helps!
