How Long Should I Schedule Childcare for Following Surgery?
on 8/5/15 9:44 am
In September I'm having a revision from lapband to sleeve. I have 2 children, one age 10 months and a 4 year old. The 10 month old weighs about 20 pounds. My husband will work during the day, but won't travel for a while so he can be home at night.
Can anyone tell me how long you think I should schedule childcare for during the day? I'm trying to get an estimate so I can make arrangements now.
1) How soon after surgery could you lift 20 pounds?
2) How soon after surgery could you drive?
Thanks in advance!
I could drive as soon as I was off pain killers for a day, for me that was a few days. I could definitely drive a week post-op.
Lifting? Ask your surgeon, but my restrictions were 6 weeks.

Driving was less than 2 weeks, and I think if I remember correctly maybe 5 days? 20 pounds... I went back to work at the 2 week mark without incident, but had my students do any sort of lifitng for me. I would estimate 2 weeks for childcare, but hopefully someone who had a baby and is post op can give you a better estimate.

I wasn't allowed to lift anything over 10 lbs for four weeks, and not anything over 20 lbs for six weeks.
almost all surgeons for any type of abdominal surgery say no lifting more than 10 lb for 6 weeks , you risk a hernia if you do , you will need someone to lift the baby for 6 weeks unless it will climb onto a changing table ( if still in diapers) , a chair to eat and not require you to carry him / her around
You can drive when you no longer require pain meds. That was about 10 days for me. As for lifting/pushing/pulling - the common rule is no more than 8 lbs for 8 weeks, and even after that, baby your core.
