Have your food tastes changed?

i have heard that post surgery your food tastes often change. Some of the foods that you previously enjoyed are not foods that taste good post op.  Is this happening to you? And if so, do you know why it happens? Is it due to your body craving the things it needs, not what you THINK you want?

Definitely changed but changed back over time - hated coffee, couldn't bear the thoughts of another protein shake (still can't) - gradually tastes came back to normal.

I loved my black coffee before surgery. Post-op could not stand it black...had to add stuff. Finally now at 6 months I like it black again :-)

My senses of taste AND smell altered dramatically after surgery. Everything, and I mean e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g smelled and tasted terrible. Even water and fresh air smelled and/or tasted awful. It definitely was not a result of my body craving good food. It was my body telling me, "Don't eat or drink anything, and while you're at it, put a clothespin on your nose." For a while, I was afraid it would be permanent, but like everything else that happened during recovery from surgery, all was temporary.

I used to hate eggs, but after surgery I love them and crave them all the time. And I am serious when I say I used to hate them, even the smell of them made me nauseated and I would try to escape from wherever the smell was coming from.

I also used to prefer vanilla to chocolate, that has switched. No idea why this stuff happens, but my guess would be it has something to do with your hunger hormones (ghrelin) being altered and your gut bacteria being disturbed/re-set.

I had no changes at all. Everything tastes the same, and I still like the same things.

3 weeks out, my tastes are pretty much the same.  the only thing i'm really craving is red meat.

Nope, no changes really. The only thing I will say I don't really care for anymore that I once loved is pasta. I've tried it a few times and each time it leaves me flat. Don't like the texture and it tastes of NOTHING. Pasta is now in the Why Bother category.

yeah tastes can change. for awhile nearly everything was gross and too sweet. and i used to hate hate hate oatmeal but now i like it - though seldom eat it. after 5 years tastes are more like before but i just don't do bread and pasta and such. not so much taste as just a ha*****ange.  d

Nothing has changed for me as far as what I like to eat.  I'm a hard core foodie.  The difference is I avoid certain foods as much as possible and eat smaller portions of everything.
